Licensed Asbestos Inspections

License #AI15202

Does that building material you’re about to disturb contain asbestos? Laboratory analysis can answer that question. Only a licensed asbestos inspector is allowed to sample the material and have it analyzed by a certified laboratory.

Asbestos-containing building materials (ACBMs) were used in over 3,500 building materials and every type of building system, and can still be found in some materials sold in the United States today. Any building material made of something other than wood, metal, or glass may have asbestos. Asbestos was used in building materials because of its strength, fire and corrosion resistance, and its insulating qualities.

When ACBMs are disturbed or in bad condition, asbestos can be released and become airborne. Asbestos fibers are very small and cannot be detected by the human eye. Once airborne, asbestos fibers can be easily inhaled and lodged in the lungs. The fibers do not break down or dissolve, and can scar tissue. Exposure to asbestos can cause lung cancer.

An asbestos survey or inspection is required prior to any building/structure demolition, remodeling, renovation or repair. All suspect materials must be presumed to contain asbestos unless tested.

Who benefits from an asbestos inspection?

  • Architects, builders and contractors prior to renovations or repairs
  • Contractor seeking an asbestos free certification to demo a building or structure
  • Home seller real estate agent trying to eliminate all roadblocks to the sale
  • Home buyers wanting to verify potential asbestos products in their home inspection report
